Basics in Bowen Theory

The overall goal is to help family members to become "systems experts"
Murray Bowen, Family Therapy in Clinical Practice, 157

Basics in Bowen theory is the longest running Bowen theory seminar in Houston, Texas. The thinking of Murray Bowen continues to inform and inspire the efforts of individuals to better understand their own family, to address challenges through differentiation of self, and to apply systems thinking in all areas of life and work. The most common comment from those who are new to Bowen theory is “Dr. Bowen is talking about my family!” The most common comment from those who have years of study is “I hear something new that applies to my situation every time I watch this tape.”

Participants are welcome to combine the videotaped seminar with guided readings in Bowen theory using the library or online Bowen Theory Resource Store.  Victoria Harrison will chair this seminar and the discussion. Conference Series: Societies, Families, and Planet Earth
                              Exploring the Connections

Bowen Center for the Study of the Family and Georgetown University Department of Sociology held this 2 day conference in April, 2009.  Videotapes from this conference bring presentations by internationally recognized scientists from a broad range of disciplines and by leaders in the study of Bowen theory who address how human societies organize themselves and what happens as increasing complexity, population density, and depletion of resources create challenges in the connections between the human and the earth.

This seminar is designed for individuals who are learning and using Bowen theory to bring about changes in themselves and in their family as well as for professionals who want to better understand the family and emotional functioning. Supplementary reading by each of the presenters will be available at the CSNSF Library or can be purchased through the Bowen Theory Resource Store. Victoria Harrison will direct discussion.

Each session will be held from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served. CEUs will be provided for each session in Social Work, LMFT, and LPC.
Fees: $50 for each session or $450 for the series

CSNSF does not decline to register anyone for educational programs because of financial limitations. Individuals are welcome to discuss what they can afford to pay with Victoria Harrison.
